Qualcomm Snapdragon 2022 chipset

List of Phones with Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 to Buy in 2021 (Upcoming)

The chipset will likely be based on 4nm fabrication technology

The current flagship processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888+ is an improved version of the already existing Snapdragon 888, much like the Snapdragon 865+ from last year. But now a well-known leaker, Evan Blass has posted a picture about the next generation Qualcomm, the one that will power the flagship phones of 2022. The picture reveals some basic information about this next-gen flagship processor i.e. Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 (aka Snapdragon 898). So what can we expect from this upcoming flagship processor? Let’s take a look at it.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 features

We don’t have a confirmation on the name of this processor yet. The rumours reveal the model number as the SM8450 or Waipio. It will be called the Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 when it officially launches though.

This upcoming processor will be fabricated on a 4nm process. It will feature the Qualcomm X65 5G modem, an upgrade over the X60 5G modem found on the Snapdragon 888. This will result in better wireless download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, a 33% jump from the 7.5 Gbps speed from last year.

This processor will also bring a new architecture chip, with Kryo 780 cores on board. Reportedly, it will pack 1x Cortex-X1 at 3.0GHz + 3×2.50GHz + 4×1.80GHz combination. The GPU will also receive an update from the Adreno 660 to the Adreno 730. We don’t know what is new with this GPU, but if Qualcomm wants to compete with Samsung’s Exynos that will have AMD GPU, the update needs to be a substantial one. Spectra 680 IPS inside this upcoming processor will handle all the factors related to the smartphone’s optics.

We also have Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6900 chip that will handle Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. Apart from that, we have the Adreno 665 as the video processing unit and Adreno 1195 as the display processing unit. This upcoming processor will also provide support for Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9380/WCD9385 audio codec and quad-channel package-on-package LPDDR5 RAM.

The well-known tipster Digital Chat Station said that the upcoming chipset will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process. He further revealed the first internal benchmark test report of Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 chip that shows an impressive 20% performance boost over its predecessor SD888.
